OUR TO DO LISTS – A FRESH APPROACH

Have you ever asked yourself the question, "When is the day I’m going to wake up, and be up to date with my must do list?" the harsh truth of the matter is never! We are always going to have things on our to do list and this can seem quiet daunting concept to grasp. I remember spending a lot of my life thinking if I just get that extra thing done now, then I will have more free time tomorrow or the day after. Once I got that thing ticked off my list, I then though I can squeeze one more thing, but then the day would get away from me, and I would feel unfulfilled that I didn’t get to do anything I really wanted to do. So many promises like “yes we will definitely go to the park today Fynn, I promise", and then at the end of the day, I had made another empty promise to myself and let my son down. You see, I believed that I was working towards this magical day in the future to arrive, where everything would just fall into place and I would have everything completed that I needed to do, so that I could spend the day hanging with my family and going on adventures and nothing left on the to do list. One day I had this realisation that day would never arrive and instead of living in the future, I needed to focus on living in the now, by putting steps in place to make each day memorable. A few years back now I was fortunate enough to complete my Holistic Lifestyle Counselling level 2 in Cams wharf NSW with the world renowned health guru Paul Check( if you ever get a chance to watch some of his you tube clips I highly recommend it). I learnt so many life changers that weekend, which I still incorporate into my daily practices and teach my holistic lifestyle clients. One of the most simple but impacting tools he shared with us, was to create a to do list. You may think that's not new to me, I already do it, but his to do list was a little different and it gave me hope of a brighter calmer, and more focused future. You see, I'm a bit of a high achiever and I in the past have valued myself worth on how much I can achieve in the day, which I'm sure I’m not the only person that does this. You know those people that always tell you they are so busy. The more, I heard people around me tell me how busy they were, the more it made me not to ever want to be the person. In fact I made a promise to myself not to say these words again, as you see, what your words and actions you put out to the universe, the more you draw that energy to your life. So if you continually talk about how busy you are, all the time, then that's exactly what you will manifest and draw into your life. And really in this day and age who wants to be busier? I for one don’t, I want to be productive with my time, so that I can spend more time just being and enjoying this gorgeous thing we call life. So getting back to the "To do list" this is how it goes. Place three categories at the top of your page. Must do, Should do, Like to do. Then start to break your to do list into each of the categories. Here is an example of how mine can look Must do, Make school lunch's Drop kids to school Have a a shower Cook dinner Train clients for the day/night Should do, Wash the dishes Hang out the washing Invoicing Like to do. Meditate Take the kids to the playground Read my book Go on a mini road trip to look for gemstones Catch up with family and friends Once you have established your list, number them in each category. Make sure that you get the things done on your "must do list" done, as they are the events that must be done. Then make the commitment to get one of the items on your "should do list and like to do list" done. By doing this it enables you to feel like you have still achieved for the day, plus you have filled your cup up by doing something on your, "like to do list" as this is your list you put together that makes you feel happy. This approach has created more peace and harmony in my life, it has made me feel like each day isn’t ground hog day, and it has brought me to the conclusion that we can’t get everything we want to get done, but in the day, we can sure tick off some things. My intention of sharing this little tip with you is to help you start to create some space for you to take some time out each day, to do the things that make you smile. That by making each day memorable and allowing you that time to spend with loved ones. We can still achieve things, but it keeps us in check with the bigger picture to live life to fullest. There will be always things there waiting for us on our to do lists, but this strategy helps us to start to make peace with this idea. P.S I can still have days where my old patterns come back to visit me and I feel overwhelmed, and feel like I have to get everything done on that to do list done today. I take a moment to breath, re ground myself and create my TO DO LIST. CLARITY, CLEAR DIRECTION AND EXCITEMENT SETS IN, AS I KNOW I'VE GOT THIS!!
